books, books, books and more books...

I bought quite a few books on my last day of semester examz....and i had quite few unread books from the last semester as well. So that leaves me with a total of 12 books to read this summer (or whatever is left of it!)

I finished Nadeem Aslam's Maps for lost lovers, Paulo Coelho's By the river Piedra I sat down and wept and Jhumpa Lahiri's Interpreter of Maladies.

The first one, Maps, was frustratingly annoying- yes that describes it. ok so i rank each book in two ways, was it able to grab my attention? yes it was, do i agree with the author?with the message? NO I DONT! why do most of the Paki authors ive read (in english) tend to downplay their religion, their society? Aslam has made that poor woman, Kaukab, sound like some religious lunatic. ok so there are people like her but any third person would get the impression that this is how an average paki is like, and this is how our religion is; mindless rules and regulations designed to bind you and nothing else. sad very sad.

The second one..I like this Brazilian writer, he writes very sensibly and i really liked this book. although i flipped the pages through all the serious stuff, but still i liked it.

The third one.....was a collection of short stories and the first story itself was heart wrenchingly beautiful, and so were many others. but at times i failed to see where the story was going and was left wondering by its end.

Now i have this Chicken Soup for the Unsinkable Soul- someone gave it to me for reading yesterday and it turns out to be right on time. I really needed this one.

Ahhh....
